The great ebook debate

There are numerous posts, articles and discussion about the merits of ebooks and the ‘ebooks vs. printed books’ issue. According to some stats, ebooks took over printed books in sales. Some others claim that the ebook bubble burst and sales peaked. For me, I have definitely seen a change in the marketing and perception of printed books as a direct result of ebooks. Where once they were for the information and used for gaining it such as at uni, learning something and for pleasure, they are now bought more as gifts and tangible objects. Covers, designs and packaging have been vastly improved. Ebooks, for me, are convenient for the information but giving an ebook as a present via an email would not be as nice as handing over a wrapped physical book.

This article from caleidoscope nicely covers the great ebook debate and is worth a read if you have 5 minutes.
